The Old Nakasendo Highway
The Old Nakasendo highway was also constructed in 1602. Because it was constructed for horses and foot traffic, it was probable narrow, and Japan did not make use of carts like Europe or China. It had a total length of less than 544km (320miles). There were 69 post towns on the old Nakasendo highway and TSUMAGO was the 42nd from Edo.
