Lathed woodcraft is a traditional technique of carving a thick board or log while rotating on a lathe.
In Nagiso area, carving the broad-leaved trees that have beautiful wood patterns and grow in the Kiso Valley such as Japanese yew, Japanese horse chestnut, sennoki, katsura on a lathe has been very popular since the Edo Period.
Craftsmanship that has been passed down from generation to generation is shown in the product’s tender texture and beautiful wood patterns.

As represented in the lyrics of a traditional Kiso-bushi folk song ("My journey on Kisoji is so lonely; a leaf is falling on my hinokigasa"), Hinokigasa’s charm is Kiso’s nature and people’s rustic way of living, as well as its beautiful pattern and gorgeous aroma.
